The wedding consisted of a simple civil ceremony, short, consise, but full of emotion. Carlos and Mayling broke with tradition whenever possible. The best man and maid of honor (Chris and Natalie) led the procession, followed by Carlos and his parents. Mayling was accompanied then by her mother and her niece, Stephanie, the flower girl (who suffered a bout of stage fright!). The lawyer said a few words about the significance of marriage in Costa Rica, followed by translation by Manuel. The bride and groom read their own wedding vows, and later lit a unity candle, spreading the flame to the rest of their family. All that was missing were the fireworks!
